No Keyword based website

    Hi,

This is gonna be a little hard to describe.

Let's say I want to start a site that is highly viral (hilarious, highly sharable) but there's no term or keyword that I can base it on. For example, imagine starting "FMyLife" before it got started and the word "meme" didn't exist. Obviously, I am thinking of investing heavily on sites like Digg and Stumbleupon to get the site started.

So what I am asking is, are social bookmarking sites reliable source of traffic until I can get the site established ? Especially for a site that has no definite "keyword" for it yet?

Social bookmarking is fine. Also, take a little time and write down some possible search terms. Then do a little keyword research using the Google Keyword Tool, and see which is the best.:)

advertising to social bookmarking sites or PPC would work either... try to use social bookmarking sites that has high Alexa rank I'm sure it will work if done properly.

Google Keyword tool may help you to pick up good keyword for your site.
you may use keyword density tool to check which keyword is the best one on your home page.

It's not necessarily to have a keyword or keyword phrase you want to rank for in your domain name. Historically, Google only really gave you a boost in rankings when your domain name EXACTLY (not partially) matched the search phrase. So mykeywordphrase.com got big boost when someone search for "my keyword phrase" (without quotes). But it really didn't help for phrase like "another keyword phrase" any more than having the keyword phrase in folder or file names like somegenericdomain.com/my-keyword-phrase. Best case you got a big boost for one keyword phrase.

In the past few months, I've heard many people saying that even their exact match domain names were no longer getting the huge boost they used to for search phrases that exactly match their domain.

If you can't find a keyword-rich domain name then pick something catchie... something easy to remember and type.

Sounds like something for Twitter or StumbleUpon.

SB alone can't provide huge number of traffic.. i suggest other Social networking sites.. or maybe some forums..
