inspite of being in the first 20 results for search term,my traffic doesnt go beyond 80 page impressions a day?what the hell?How can i improve that?

Since you are optimizing for Google it would be best if you check your traffic count using a Google analysis account.Which page has the maximum visitors and your traffic sources will let you know which area you got work more on.
If you really want to get traffic you need to be in the TOP 5 for popular keywords It's no use to rank in the TOP 5 for keywords that get only 5 searches per day (unless you rank TOP 5 for 1000 keywords which deliver 5 visitors per day ) Happy link building
