How long does it take for Google to get around to my sitemap?

I put this in over a week ago for my site http://www.home-equity-loan-rate.us and there is nothing in the index. I thought this was supposed to speed up the process. :D I guess I'll just fall back on my old technique of putting up a few links from some of my homepages of other sites which are already indexed, and see if that gets the whole site indexed.

Thats the misunderstanding about Google Sitemaps. It doesnt speed up the process, it only informs Google that your site exists.

How often does Google crawl the web?

Get more links to your site and they will crawl it alot faster.

Still, Google should have crawled your site by now.

They probably have crawled a site a few times already, its the speed of their indexing that is the problem.

Here is information regarding sitemap...How it really works.

A site map (or sitemap) is a web page that lists the pages on a web site, typically organized in hierarchical fashion. This helps visitors and search engine bots find pages on the site.

Using sitemaps has many benefits, not only easier navigation and better visibility by search engines. Sitemaps offer the opportunity to inform search engines immediately about any changes on your site. Of course, you cannot expect that search engines will rush right away to index your changed pages but certainly the changes will be indexed faster, compared to when you don't have a sitemap.

    ********************************************

Update your contents and Google will notice you they will index your site in no time... Usually in my experience whenever I update my page Google crawls my site every 4 to 5 days... :D
