I think this is true. Google's primary mission is to get the good content at the top, that's it. It only emphasizes how good your content has to be.

Whilst there's money to be made from higher rankings there will always be SEO. The key is to adapt both to the technology and the market.

SEO.. Personally, I don't think it worth the time and money anymore. It doesn't need to be taken care of, you will get good traffic from different SEs if your site is good.

Hmm I disagree with this. SEO is something that you're always always going to have to be doing to your site. If you don't do any SEO on your site you will not be found in search engines, at least not for good search terms.

SEO has to be there, if you need traffic to your site. Otherwise, you can rest with peace.

The problem is people's definition of SEO is skewed.

To me SEO is making your site usable, and allowing search engine spiders to crawl it easily, which is the use of heading tags, SE friendly URL's, keywords in the title. That will always be around, because that also makes the experience better for the user.

Most people's view on SEO seems to be building up as much links as possible (via unnatural methods) and spamming their sites with keywords.

Well, then tell me how could Google (in the future) know what is good and what is not?

I certainly think social networking/voting sites will play an increasing role in results. But SEO isn't going anywhere anytime soon - Google is just trying to lessen the chance of black hat techniques and spammers. There is always going to be a need for good & successful online marketing, and SEO is just one tool of the online marketer.

I think SEO have a future...but as with other things, it will change. As technology and crawlers become smarter, the parameters will change drastically.

As someone said before, if you can identify a category or a specific subject that people will be searching 6 months from now and then have good related content on your website, that's is good SEO. All the search engines will find you and you will get tons of traffic.

The old school of linkbaiting and keyword stuffing are all becoming history.

I think that SEO is going to be staying around for a while. As previously said it will jus adapt to find other ways of getting content recognised as good by the search engines.
