    Hi

So i don't know if this has been brought up before but i would like to know what are the pros and cons of no follow links.

    Are they helpful in SEO?

    Thanks

They can drive traffic if they are good, brand awareness. For SEO very limited, to be honest though when blog commenting and similar link building activities I think its a mistake to avoid nofollow.

the nofollow attribute was agreed to and introduced by the SE's to offer a way to control user generated content spam (as in blog comments and such). When used for its orignial purpose it is a very good thing.

Google later morphed its use, demanding that webmasters 'nofollow' paid links and such. Bad on Google!

Then, webmasters began using nofollow to 'sculpt PR' and other nefarious deeds. Bad on them!!

I, for one, have never used the nofollow attribute, and have no reason to begin using it.

What was once designed as a tool to combat abuse has instead become a tool of abuse.

I use video to drive traffic and most of those sites are nofollow, but I get a ton of traffic from those links. BUT I put out good relevant content.

So I'll post even if it's a nofollow tag any day of the week. People still click them.

As for a blog what I'll often do is make a video response. Post that on YouTube. Then drive the traffic from the person blog to the YouTube video. This video is relevant to the blog owners post (and since it's NOT to my site directly the blog owner is likely to keep the post) then in the video I direct the viewer to go to my site.
