hi, do you know if the "No Follow" links increase, in any case, the back links to your site? or just the "follow links" contribute to the link building?
i am not sure about this but anyhow if i could get link then i will get it even it is nofollow or dofollow. At least i can drive me some traffic.
as far as google is concerned. "no follow" links are useless. but there are other search engines which consider a link as a link. so it might me useful. so in short, no follow links are useless according to google search engine..
correct leo according to google....however yahoo counts them and what if Google one day decides to include no follow and you have none because you have listened to G? In my experience it is best to have a mix of dofollow and nofollow, obviously more dofollow
The difference between the dofollow and nofollow backlinks is that the nofollow backlinks won't pass PR linkjuice, whereas dofollow backlinks pass. However you will get traffic from nofollow backlinks.
I agree with arunsundar + I would says it is good to have both DO follow and NoFollow backlinks, it makes your backlink profile look more naturel to google.
you will get traffic from nofollow links. but they won't help you in your pagerank, only dofollow links contribute for pagerank.
yes you can get traffic from nofollow links, but this is not remarkable. Dofollow links give both traffic and pagerank. So instead of spending time to build nofollow back links, we should build dofollow links only. Correct me if I am wrong, I just a newbie
Both google and yahoo counts and shows nofollow links as well. Not quite sure exactly how google treats nofollow. However nofollow may be help for ranking in other search engines.
I have heard that no follow links are ok. A freind of mine built a test website built purely on no follow links just to see how it would rank and apparently it did really well, confiming to him that they must count.
Well, I'm not sure if I am allowed to put a link to the wikipedia article for "nofollow" attribute; but I'll give a shot http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nofollow To my surprise, it mentions the partial acceptance of nofollow links as a positive factor of a web site's search rankings.
I believe it's a common misconception that nofollow links are useless in Google's eyes. Ask any professional SEO (well, any honest one that doesn't guard their secrets) and you'll find out that nofollow links are important aswell. If you're only building dofollow backlinks then it's going to look extremely unnatural; maybe even spammy. Even if you have a systematic backlink strategy mapped out, it'd be in your best interest to have it appear organic.
Nofollow links from authority sites ( example facebook, technorati etc etc ) can help. Btw, nofollow links from unpopular blog commenting pages is a waste of time.
yahoo doesnt seem to care about nofollow or even redirects for that matter. according to some experts over a the big G, nofollow doesnt carry the same weight as it one did in terms of preventing spiders from crawling because web masters where using nofollow for PR sculpting.
They both work... One just works better than the other... Don't limit yourself in obtaining backlinks. Variety and Consistency is Key when it comes to building backlinks. But, at the same time, DON'T waste your time either. Concentrate on High PR / Authority Type Backlinks.
I agree with what everyone is saying. It is definitely better to have "do follow" links rather than "no follow" but having both is beneficial. I would try to focus more on the do follow, and occasionally go with the no follow. There are lots of good comments going on; good job everyone!
They do not have an affect on getting you faster indexed or where you rank. They do not pass link juice either towards your site so you cannot gain PageRank. The one advantage though of having a nofollow link is instant traffic.Even though the search engines do not follow the link somebody browsing around on that site might click on the link and come to your site.
