What about a noindex instead of nofollow tag on the pages?

Still happening, Google keeps dropping pages as they are now down to 9000 while MSN keeps adding pages as they are up to 8000.

We only have 3000 pages and what is happening is that new pages are being indexed with each item dropped into the shopping cart. EG: Blue toothbrush= another page , red toothbrush=another page.

Guessing huge duplication penalties as the only unique content change is "blue toothbrush has been added to your cart, click here to check out"

The goal of the nofollow on the "Add to cart" button is to only have one strong page about Toothbrushes.

Seems to be working for Google, but MSN keeps adding stuff to the cart and the site continues to grow.

Here's the deal, it depends on how you use the nofollow and for what, G, Y, and MSN agreed to observe the nofollow for links in posts not made by the webmaster, such as comments, and forums. Yahoo despite it's cliams, is NOT observing the nofollow in this case, but G and MSN are.

Now in the case of the poster of this thread, you can't use a nofollow, and must use either a robot text, or meta noindex nofollow in the header.

Google observes this, not sure about MSN and Yahoo. I have read many complaints that yahoo and msn do not observe the meta and robot txt too! But at least G observes them all, and you will not get a dupe penelty from G any way :)
