No Follow Directories

I was wondering if there is any value in building backlinks with directories that have taken the "no-follow" policy? Will building links with no-follows still help increase my PR?

I have a new website and am working on good content right now, but want to start getting links to good PR directories. I have read that a lot of directories are taking up a "no-follow" policy now, so is there some listing showing which ones are "follow" directories?

From my understanding 'nofollow' was an attribute developed by Google as to not 'pass pagerank', ie, spiders will still crawl the link, but the site linked to won't inherit any pagerank value from the link.

If you plan on moving up in the serps or gaining any form of page rank then you will need to stay away from directories that use the no-follow tag. IMO directories that have taken this route are only hurting themselves as well as pass submitters. It is a shame to see directories doing this just to keep whatever little pr they have, sure it looks good in the toolbar but bad in the inbox if you know what I mean.

If im not paying for it then no follow is fine for me, as its suggested its only to stop juice leaking from the site but its still a backlink as far as im aware.

That doesn't mean if i was paying that it would be for juice, just want to clear that one up. :)

Sorry, I didn't mean to repeat the subject. However, I did search the directory forum for "no follow," and "no follow directories" before I posted my qestion. It came back with nothing.

If site has alot of traffic it could send some people to your site. it does not help site in search engines so most do not submit to them.

I wouldn't recomend spending engery on submitting to web directories in the first place. The are so many links in directories that usually all of the link juice has been given away. If you submiting to directories is a must and is part of your strategy than I wouln't focus on submitting to Nofollow directories, unless its a big directory that syndicates or othe sites scrape the content. For example if you can get a link from wiki you are not going to get any seo benefit but you will get links from other sites that scrape the content.
