"No Follow" Command

How can you tell before you post to a blog if the blog owner has a "no follow" command? Does the blog owner add this command after the blog is posted or is it a default setting for all comments or postings?

It is a default setting on most bloggin platforms. One way to see if a blog has NoFollow is to look at the source code of a post with comments. You'll see [rel="nofollow"] in the page source.

Can you check this with existing blogs to see if they are showing NO FOLLOW.

Point is, I don't want to post to most blogs if my url will not be followed.

You can check any blog for the NoFollow attribute by looking at the source code.

If you see [rel="nofollow"] from other comments then you know you won't get any backlinks from your comment.

But its always good to comment on other blogs because other visitors might follow your blog URL.

you should be honest with every blog, not only yours.

habit of leaving comment is very good.

You dont have to worry about it if you're not planning to spam with your links. No-follow is not negative at all. Conclusion, you're a spammer.

If you really want to see if they are using the no follow tag then install SeachStatus into firefox. It's a plugin that will give you the PageRank, Alexa Rank and Compete Rank and it also has a setting that will highlight all links on a page that is using the no follow tag. That was you don't have to sift through the source code to find out. Just keep in mind though that most bloggers will delete spam comments so make sure your comments are meaningful.

There are some sites which have had the rel="nofollow" attribute removed from their comments. A list of such blogs is here:

Be sure to leave comments which contribute something relevant to the post in question - don't just spam.

I asked this question in another part of the forum today - turns out that Nofollow can also be set within robots.txt somehow.
