No Dates On Blog Posts - Why?

    Hi folks,

I've noticed at least 3 highly-commented (as in lots of comments) blogs without
dates on any of their posts. As in you wouldn't know when that blog entry was
made, although the dates on the comments can maybe give you an idea.

I really wonder why, or for what benefit. Have you tried and what results occur?

Just thought I'd ask here as it's something making me curious enough to try also,
though I'd like an idea of what I'm possibly getting myself into. Thanks.

Most likely so people don't see if you've been lazy and haven't posted in a couple weeks/months.

I liked ThomasU's answer, but i am not highly convinced with that. even I have also come across such situations, but can't make out why some bloggers do this. Its kinda irritating to me - if you want to know my personal view.

I've heard bloggers explain they remove dates to encourage bloggers to comment. If they come to an older post via a search engine and see that it's over a year old, they will likely feel that the discussion is dead and not want to contribute their thoughts, even if it's "evergreen" content and still just as relevant. But yeah, I feel like most bloggers do it just because they know they won't be posting very consistently.

I think its because these people want their content to be valued even if its a year old for example. Some readers may leave a site if they feel the blog post isn't up to date so this is one way around it.

Me personally, I don't like it when content isn't dated. It puts me off. Things change very quickly so for me it's important to know the info is relatively up to date.

It is believed that it's simply want to hide that the data isn't new.

I think it has to do more with the fact that some bloggers do not want the information on their blogs to be "dated". That when visitors land on that post, they will just skip it because it is an old post and no longer relevant.

I have an interior design blog that I keep the dates off of because most of the information is still valid after a year or two. I think it depends on the niche and what the blogger is trying to accomplish.

Ooops, I forgot about this thread. The bit about not giving the impression the posts are old arguably makes sense.

Thanks for commenting, everyone! Honestly I think I'll do the same, just to see how it goes over time.
