I have one site, was getting about 3,000 uniques a day from Google, about 5% of those were looking at the cache version and not the site itself. In an effort to recover those 5% of users, I turned of caching then almost overnight none of my pages were cached, however now traffic has dropped to about 200 uniques a day as people are now only finding us through the titles and url keywords. I have tried to turn off the no cache function and it's still there but no go. All the pages are still uncached in google. Any idea how to get pages back into google's cache? Without it, they only search based on titles and url keywords If anything, serves as a warning to others, cache = good.
How do you know the users were looking at the cache version? It could be the ISP's cache and not google's cache....Some ISPs , especially AOL cache sites and don't update the cache for 24 hours at a time....depending on how often the page is requested
Your pages will get back into the google cache. Be patient. Sometimes people stumble the google-cache pages. No idea why, but they do - that may be why the cache was suddenly popular. Nothing you can do about it.
I now because I track my pages like everyone should with both apache log files as well as pixel tracking so I can see hits on the google cached servers. Thanks, looking forward to see that traffic go up.
