    I've seen weird things in Google before ... sometimes your website will be on 1st page and next day it'll be on the 6th. I wouldn't get too excited right away :p

    yeah this is possible because i have seen a website which is not more then 140 backlinks but still it was pr 4 ... so it could happend sometimes that websites get more pr with out enough backlinks

    Without knowing which website you refer to, and the keyword(s) for which it scores well, it's difficult to say, but here are some possible causes:

    - Redirect from a well-established domain with many backlinks
    - Very old site
    - Very good on-page SEO
    - Low or lousy competition

    Note that one does not exclude the other...

    its not matter about the backlink if all things like on page keyword content is ok then you can get good ranking

    There are many factor that affect the SERP, backlink just one of the factor
    Check on the website off-page SEO, it might do better on off-page SEO

    Maybe the backlinks you are getting or the keyword for your site is not as optimised as the site with no backlinks

    This is interesting.... I think its pure good content. ONe good example is the apple website. even if they don't try to rank for the keyword "ipod", they would still come up on the number one spot since their site owns the product or they have the authority that people know of.

    im not sure if I explained that well ;)
