No £0.01 clicks?

    Hi,
I bid on a lot of niche keywords, which have zero competition.

    I bid £0.10 to £0.20 per click.

How come Google never gives me clicks for £0.01 when there's no competition on these keywords whatsoever?

Also my clickthrough can be quite good on these too, say as much as 5%.

It will charge me £0.05 minimum. Why is this?

    Thanks

Because Google takes a certain amount and so does the publisher, so Google needs some money too. :)

These are search engine results only.

What if I restricted it to Google search results only? Could I get them down at all?
I'd love £0.02 clicks, to be honest, theyre not worth £0.05.

    Hi

Read up on optimising Adwords - get hold of Perry Marshall's free 5 day course
    for starters.

Google's algorithm is complicated but from what I understand, your click price will be affected by a combination of:

    Click through rate
    Advert relevance
    Keyword relevance
    Landing page relevance
Landing page "quality" (is it just a one page squeeze/sign-up or does it link off to other content pages)
Your history as an advertiser with Adwords

Good luck - it's an art!

Thanks Trevor. I have Perry Marshalls book, The ultimate guide to google adwords, which I strongly recommend.

I'm quite adwords savvy, thats why I have good CTR and many niche keywords, but I thought I'd get below 5p clicks. Maybe thats their bottom limit.

I get 0.01p clicks for content network.
On search I've got a few at 0.02, but mostly 0.03-0.04.

    Hi Hade

I've got a couple of campaigns where the click price goes down to about 2p but there's next to no traffic on them.

Content network it's definitely possible to get cheap clicks - pay on the CPM model if you've got ads that really pull well.

    Good luck

It's possible to get £0.01, but your ads must be highly relevant to your landing page. The headline, description & display URL of your ads must all contain your keywords, and this keyword must also appear in your landing page. Your CTR should be at least 10%.

Why "at least 10%"? - where did you get this figure from? what are you basing it on?

I have many campaigns with £0.01 minimums, on search and content networks...

    Try my course (see below).

It's all about maximising your Quality Scores (in this case, your Minimum Bid Quality Score).

You need to look at your advert text (which should include your keyword if possible), your landing page and your clickthrough rate (which takes into account your advert position).

Here's my page on the MBQS:

The reason is because google adwords rewards advertisers with highly relevant ads. A CTR of 10% means there's 1 click out of every 10 impressions, telling google that your keywords provide some value and google loves this!

I have seen some keywords with as high as >50% CTR and of course achieve very high conversion rates.

Google rewards you by lowering the cpc since your ads provides value to the customers and therefore rank you higher than your competitors.

Completely agree, although I think he was challenging the accuracy of your exact figure rather that the overall idea.

    CustardMite, your site looks excellent!
