So... Instead of listening to our departments advice another brand within our umbrella company redesigned there own webiste and have now called us to start optimising!! This will be a nightmare! Please view the link below and enjoy the FLASH Intro - which we told them not to use!!! I have already started keyword research and implmenting keywords density whilst also producing footer links to the portfolio and service section as these were image based and cant be read by spiders... What advise would you give... http://www.creativeworkhouse.com
Heya, It seems that the spiders are still getting through, however they need to make better use of the title tags - it depends if you want to retain the company name on every page for branding purposes or not.
Hi libertines, Having different titles for every page will help you to optimize your site even better. Another suggestion here is to convert your navigation menu to text links, image links hurt the SERP.. If you have to use images for navigations, put a set of text naviagtion at the footer of the page for the sake of Search Engines and include alt attributes to all your navigation images. Good Luck with the site
thanks, keep it cooming! at the moment i have done what you said RH78 and have added alt tags to the navigation image toolbar but have started each page with new geadings - relevant to my keywords and have added title tags etc... i have also put in footer links with specific anchor texts and added more keyword dense content in where possible. Is there anything else??
Using flash will not give you rankings just listen to what a seo expert says because he's expertised in it.
Occasionally someone at my old company comes up with "revolutionary" rolleyes ideas like this. Through experience I've found that merely telling them that it's a bad idea isn't enough. If you haven't already done so, find examples from credible sources of why Flash for example is tough for SEO and maybe they'll listen. Explain to them (if they don't already know) that their "baby" will result in poor SE rankings, and then explain the effect that lower ranking will have on your site traffic, and then subsequent company income. Oddly, I've found that the accounting people who know NOTHING about SEO are the easiest to win over when it comes to making an effective counter argument. If you break down your company income to a per visitor dollar amount it's easy to show them how much income can be lost, once you lose a given amount of traffic. In your case you can try to show them how much income they may never get...
yep...that is the technique I used when I found out that the site owner had a total of 8 mirrored pages (the only difference was a special offer on each). He wanted to test which offer got the most repsonses. I told him he could easily set a drop box with the offers on one site and he wouldn't have to scarifice the ranking of his main site (the money maker). He looked at me like I just saved his life. Just remember that whenever you want someone to change something or to get rid of something, do your research and make sure you have valid points as to why your view is the correct one. In their eyes, you should be the subject matter expert and after awhile, they will take you suggestions without question, but still have something to back your reasoning up.
