Niches... Will this keyword make money?

    Greetings,

I'm about to build a website centered on a specific topic. The site will certer around my biggest hobby, which is a keyword phrase, something like (but not), "learn piano". My phrase received about 2 million hits a month according to Overture. Is this enough to make some money on Adsense if my site gets to the top 30 or in Google?

When you guys/girls choose nice markets, what keyword hit rate do you choose? I assume you research your market before you make the site, right? So many topics I have searched on Overture have only 3,000 or so searches a month.

    Thanks.

The problem is getting your site up in google.

When you make an adsense site does it make sense to try to limit the amount of links leading users out of the site?

The keyword will easily make money, EASILY. I just see you having great difficulty ranking well for a 2 million searched for term.

However, "learn XYZ" searches convert well.

I hate double posting, but YES! There're a large percentage of surfers out there who surf from link to link. If your only outgoing links are ads, you can get some really nice CTR numbers ;)

Appreciated, Art. Good point about the difficulty being ranked on a 2million search term. I have a related content sitealready linked to lots of .edu sites so perhaps the best way to go about this is to add the new site in a subdirectory of this already well linked domain...

Yes but th ething is even if there are a lot of websites about a subject doesn't mean people will flock to those they see first. Since it's a hobby of yours then you know what kind of problems you face and how to solve them that type of thing. So you can focus on the little parts of the subject that the big websites ignore. For example instead of going for the main subject you can have a part of your site dedicated to "home piano repair" or something of the sorts.

    Thank You

I think his niche keyword is "learn xxxxx" not "xxxxx piano" :)

Also, use this for an estimate on what your ads will pay: http://uv.bidtool.overture.com/d/search/tools/bidtool/

Just now, as a very quick test on that bid price link, I found something weird.

I typed in a two-word phrase that I thought would be fairly common, got 4 advertisers, highest $.12.

Then I added another word to the phrase, making it more specific, and got like 7 advertisers with a high bid of $.89! And the 3-word phrase was right in the title of most of them.

Eh? Weird, or normal but weird to a newbie?
