    Hi,

I'm new to adsense and have only just put it onto my site this past week - and have earnt $21 :)

But I've read a few topics on here mentioning how much you get depends on the niche, what does this mean exactly?

Your earnings based on ads that is being shown and clicked in your site depends on the topic that your site discusses about, something like of the health side earns more and the one with games earns less. Not too accurate but it's more or less like that.

21$ in a week for new one is great. Seems You have niche on high paid keywords.

A niche is more or less the topic of your site. For example, writing would be a wide niche. Poetry would be more specific, but 20th century poetry would be a much more specific niche.

Actually, for AdSense it means that AdSense will show ads related to your website niche (topic of your site/blog and by keywords, I guess, they determine your niche). And when someone says that earning depends on niche he/she means that there are high paying keywords... so if you have, for instance, a site about games and AdSense on it you will get approximately $0.40 cents per click, and for viagra, gambling or loans you will get more than $1.5 for one click. You can check post on my new blog about top paying keywords in AdSEnse korvinsblog.blogspot.com/2008/01/most-expensive-ppc-keywords.html

...which, in my opinion, is awesome! On blogs, you can post about anything you want. When you change each post up, your ads will change along with it. With that being said, write about something in the news or an article you read that contains some higher paying keywords.

Niche means certain area, subject or market section. Some areas like insurance, leagal etc. pays well for each clicks. That makes people believe that you need to create blogs around high paying subjects to make more money.

But practically, more than the niche your knowledge of the subject and the traffic you can bring affects the revenue. Some topics may be low paying, buy easy to generate traffic. You musts stick to what you are comfortable with, than looking for high paying terms.

Your ads depend on the topic of your site (rather the text on it). So, a different topic will get you different ads which may or may not give you more $/click

A niche is an idea that will drive traffic to your site.
Its crucial for an Adsense user!

Thanks for the encouragement! I've come to an intersection as to what to do with my blog (to continue ahead or split it up to several small blogs)
