I find it interesting hearing web marketing podcasts that most people here pronounce niche as "nitch". I've never heard it pronounced that way here in Australia (we say it more like "neesh") and was wondering how you say it in your country? I'm not saying "neesh" is right by any means.. after all, our prisons are called "gaols" here and not "jails".. how weird is that?
I pronounce it as neesh or somethign which sounds like niish. Nitch...uhm..that isn't the way I pronounce it at all.. BTW,this is what Merriam Webster has to say "Pronunciation: 'nich also 'nEsh or 'nish"
its neesh. anyone who says 'nitch' is either not speaking engleesh, has a strong accent or is confused.
Nitch is not neesh unless you pronounce B-itch Beesh. or pitch peesh. This is not french my fair friends it is English. The Germans would very dismayed that the French are finally winning at something.
Both are perfectly acceptable: http://www.bartleby.com/64/C007/0139.html Another source: http://www.tiscali.co.uk/reference/dictionaries/english/data/d0082473.html The US pronunciation is always [nitch].
The majority of americans that I know pronounce it as nitch. I, as a Brit, always pronounce it as neesh.
