I need help. This question is about niche focus and maximizing SEO, and of course profits.

    site is: www.femalemuscle.com

I recently joined the team for Female Muscle. They are a female bodybuilding website that's been on the web for 15 years. The content is primarily bodybuilder and female wrestling centered, but...here's where it gets interesting...the profit from the site is driven by sister sites that specializing in "live chat" with female bodybuilders, and R-rated nude images of female bodybuilders. Nothing overtly pornish, or that degrades women. The photos are very artistic.

Site traffic is about 1,500,000 pages per month, and driven primarily from search terms related to "female bodybuilders" and "muscle women."

The site is in blog format, and content is all over the map. We are trying to refine the site and maximize profits.

--Do you believe that a lack of niche focus is hurting us? Again, content is all over the map, and more like a personal blog then a niche site. There has never been a true focus on keyword density or targeting a niche. It's just been a "blog and go" type scenario...

--Do you believe our content is fine, but we might be lacking a brand? Is it OK to be all over the map as long as we develop a strong brand?

--From a pure SEO standpoint, what should we be doing better? Again, our format is blog-centered. Navigation is category driven, and categories are generally not labeled to assist with the promotion of our niche.

Our big concern is the focus of the content. I realize that lack of SEO focus is hurting us, but we're also worried about getting too focused on a specific niche after 15 years and fragmenting our readership base. BUT, we need to make more money.

We're definitely NOT maximizing our site for our profit centers.

    Thanks for your help...

Try improving your keywords, content (including your customer avatar)and backlinking strategie.

Might take a bit but it will pay off

If the site is mainly a blog, I highly recommend adding a forum - a place where people can register an account, post their question, suggestions, embed videos, post pictures.

There are several different types of people that are on the internet. By staying with only a blog format, your excluding the groups of people that like forums. I rarely visit blogs, but I got to forums everyday.

After the forum suggestion, I recommend opening something like a youtube account and start posting videos. Sites like youtube can provide a steady stream of targeted traffic.

    --- edit ---

Having reviewed the site, by staying with only a blog, your excluding a huge audience. By not having videos or podcast on the site, your excluding the people that want multimedia.
