Niche Discovery Techniques

I have been somewhat successful since nov 2007 doing the basic affiliate marketing. ie-clickbank. ppc, lenses article etc.

Need to branch out and learn how to discover how to find these so called niche markets. What techniques have members been doing?

The success I have has thus far is a few hundred dollars per pay period with clickbank. The problem then? Too competitive. I want to find more focused niche area to exploit.

My problem is how to specifically discover and tap into these markets.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

Here's my advice - find a hot converting product on CB and then research the niche and create less broad products.

E.G Rocket spanish - why not create a spanish phrase book which people can download instead of having to learn spanish in its entirety?

Or what about fat loss 4 idiots - foods to help you lose weight handbook

There's thousands of possibilities out there...

If you offer free advice on a specific problem and have that product listed on site it should help

I wrote about this whole topic on my blog, and combined the idea of keyword research with niche discovery. You find both tutorials on my signature link.

In short, google trends, ebay pulse, yahoo buzz can give great ideas..
then start finding out what kind of traffic runs through that niche, no sense pluggin in a ton of work if the niche has no traffic..

Then find out if it actually sells, One of the best tools I use to determine if a niche actuallys sells is Ebay, just because an item is listed on ebay doesn't mean it sells, but I show the way to find out on my tutorial.

This should give you a quick summary start and ideas on niche discovery and research.

thanks for the replies! I appreciate it.

What the problem seems to be is that everyone claims to have the "hot, high converting" products. I am hoping to get some information that has worked for others reguarding "niche discovery".

Examples: good niche numbers for keywords, what is too broad and what is niche? ie- searches per day, etc.
I would like a little insight as to how some others "find the right numbers" (resulting from research), decide on the niche, then begin the marketing, website building process.

    Thanks

I did read grayth's stuff. Very good, very specific. Thanks Grayth.

Picking the actual niche. Still the hardest part. I always read "pick 10 things your intereested in etc" make a list and do the research, etc. But what are some others doing to get ideas for niche's??

I use the seobook to research for keywords, and I have found that creating my own and CHEAP ebooks is very effective.
