Niche Directory VS General Directory

since Google places so much weight on webite, and link content themes, would it be more beneficial to have listings in related directories than in the general ones..?

Ie : Rebuilt Transmissions in an Automotive Directory VS General shopping directory with 'Autos' catagory.

Following this same question deeper - would it be better to:
Put Church Website Design in a Religious/Church Niche directory or Generic web designers directory..?

Or does it not really matter as long as the actual linking PAGE theme is related - IE the catagory page is related.

 

I would think putting it in as many directories as possible would be better. Over a period of time of course to not look like this is just a link building campaign.

 

Each directory link, is a one wya link to you. Whether free or paid, can;t hurt. If you spend a lot of money on PPC, do a lot of paid directories as well. Otherwise just do the free ones and you should be fine.
