Niche analyzing/survey tool?

    Hello,

I am considering creating a product in a certain niche, but would like to "test the waters" first before committing thousands to it. Does anyone know of some tool which can conveniently do that? What I am looking for is basically some kind of quality landing page generator with a multiple-choice survey about the niche which registers the results into some MySQL database, so that I could run a test PPC campaign for a while and gauge the user feedback based on that.

    Regards,
    Michael

I'm not aware of any generator tools for survey landing pages, but there are certainly plenty of free survey scripts around if you browse a site like HotScripts or just Google it.

It's a very interesting concept, although IMHO you need a significant amount of data from a well-understood audience to extrapolate much from it. It's going to get expensive driving PPC traffic in high enough volume to produce useful results. Not to mention, the wording and context of every question can be highly influenced by other factors. It actually takes quite a bit of practice to read between the lines. For example, I did a survey recently that asked if they downloaded mobile apps to their phone. 99.9% of responses said no, and they didn't want to. One person said they actually used mobile apps. This was a very tech-savvy audience too. Imagine if Apple interpreted that data as a non-market, and never sold iPhone apps. Whoops, bye bye killer revenue model. Later, I read the survey with a fresh perspective and realized that the question was worded such that a tech savvy user might suspect it was an offer for mobile apps. In other words the responses were useless for the question I posed.

If you do give it a whirl, definitely make sure the landing pages are very well optimized and provide an awesome incentive for taking the survey. I would also grab as many subscribers as possible with an opt-in checkbox on the survey for a related newsletter. Any other info you can capture about the visit - do it. Client referer, search term used, geo/IP, browser, OS, language, etc. Might as well make the most of each click. Not to mention if you move into the niche you'll start out with a nice little list of subscribers. :)

    Tekime,

thanks, very good points. I am aware that such a campaign can cost a lot, but as you have said, you can do many other things "on the way" with it as well - such as gather mail addresses of potential customers.

I will look at hotscripts. If they dont have anything I like, perhaps I'll write an app for this myself.

    Regards,
    Michael
