always funny to see these posts. however, PR updates were in the past often every 3 months, and backlink updates were about monthly? personally I think both happen daily, otherwise websites wouldnt raise or go down in the engine, so it happens daily they just dont show it, but show old PR and stats, so who cares (unless you are a SEO company and it might actually (notice the might ) influence your clients (I personally do use it to convince clients). Who else would care? The results in the engine count right? I am doing SEO for a while but for the reason I wrote above, I never really was looking too much at it so I dont even know how often backlinks are updated? Personally I am not even into collecting them neither I dont even use the coop network because I rather just get a few links from relevant PR7s instead and usually that works fine for me
I would agree that they are frequent (maybe not daily, but at least weekly). However, I don't think rank fluctuations alone are sufficient evidence of this. Changes in content in both your and your competitors' sites as well as algorithm tweaks can cause frequent fluctuations.
I started typing to respond to the above statement ... but then i re-read your post and found it very contradicting. So you are not collecting backlinks, but you would rather get a few from PR7 related website and then you don't use PR to convince clients ... but you would still rather get backlinks from a few related PR7 websites. ... anyway ... before I got confused ... what I wanted to say was that you are right about one thing ... SEO is about one thing getting to number 1 and not PR or BL updates ... and if a few PR 7 links from relavant websites work for you .. then good for you .. for me .. the network is looking very promising.
I track my sites 4 times a day using a homebrewed program I wrote. I notice that Google ranks change consistantly through-out the day. In the morning my ranks are always great, but by evening they are much lower, and the next day they reset. No idea what causes this, but its an interesting trend, none the less... DS
These threads are always good for the forum as although they teach us nothing about PR they do attract new visitors into the forums. People that see 'PR update' in the latest posts are bound to be curious as to what the thread is saying.
I am inclined to think that backlinks are updated on almost daily basis. It is the backlink factor that is more important than the published Google PR
I agree. BUT the toolbar is the best visual measure we have of this PR, and thus I think it will continue to have importance for quite a while... Even though we know it is a rough approximation at best. The alternative might be do run a backlink check each time you are curious. I'm lazy and won't take the time to do this, so for now I'll continue to make conclusions based on toolbar PR - even though I know its flawed.
I see the same, day in and day out. But, my position is now fluctuating less. I move between #38 and #42 now, whereas I used to move between #42 and #55. Also, I suspect that an internal PR update was done about 10 days ago and that I moved from PR4 to PR5. The reason for my suspicion is that googlebot used to visit for 2 or 3 days in a row, then I wouldn't see it again for 4 to 6 days. For the past 10 days though, I've had visits everyday and 50% - 100% of my pages are being crawled each day.
For the past 10 days though, I've had visits everyday and 50% - 100% of my pages are being crawled each day. ******************************************* For my new site that hit the SEs after the last google update (and has had heavy on and off site SEO occuring), Google is and has been for over a month now spidering my site daily (sometimes 2-3 times per day). Is this an indication of what the PR is, and will be when it updates visually. ie. pr 1+,2+,3+.
