Newsworthy topics for PR

    Hi all,

I sent a press release through PRWeb the other day and although I didn't get a massive response, I did notice a rise in traffic. I did not receive any referrers from anywhere though (apart from PRWeb itself), so I am currently unaware as to where the release got noticed.

I would like to do this again at some point and I thought it would be a good idea if we could brainstorm some "newsworthy topics" to base a release on. So, "product launch" is one of them, an acquisition, new site launch.

Any there any other news angles that someone with a content site, like me, could use? I have just used up the "new site launch" one so I will be looking for alternatives!

The rise in traffic itself is a testimonial to your effort. Just do it again and see how it pays?

Before you try to develop a newsworthy topic, you need to define your market and your target audience. Once you narrow down your audience, you'll have a better idea on what that particular group of people are most interested in and you can focus your product, website or press release on that topic.

There are already plenty of lists from people actually in the field letting you know what is and isn't newsworthy. Just do a search for something like "press release ideas" or "reasons to send a press release." Here's an article I wrote with some ideas a while back.
