I got a job as the webmaster for our local texas newspaper. ( www.texarkanagazette.com ) I just finished a redesign and now want to try to get the online advertising up to where it should be. A lot of our ad spots are empty or paying little to nothing but we get a boat load of traffic. Only problem is our area isnt very technology centered. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can enter the national market for advertising? I am open to anything. (Traffic is about 20-29k page loads a day according to statcounter. There is no in house stats.) Thanks!
Wow, talk about good timing. I work for a company that can help you generate more advertising revenue and also leverage your newspaper website's existing traffic. You have got to check this out http://www.taradel.com/newspaper
Why look for national advertisers? It sounds like you need to spend your time more effectively targeting the local ad market. They have the most to gain, and therefore have more reason to want to pay more for access to the audience. Forget about only targeting tech-savvy advertisers, and just get out there to recruit the locals. Offering first-time discounts could help. Target print advertisers with a special for online advertising. Set up a comprehensive advertising kit on-site detailing the reach and demographics of the market. etc.
