    Am I?

"Average weekday circulation at U.S. newspapers fell 2.6 percent during the six month-period ending in September in the latest sign of trouble in the newspaper business, an industry group reported Monday.

Sunday circulation also fell 3.1 percent at newspapers reporting to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, according to an analysis of the data by the Newspaper Association of America.

As for tracking. How do you know your getting people to view your ad? Yes, you can track based on coupons. But if the circulation is say 500,000 and you receive 100 coupons how do you figure your conversion rate. Did all 500,000 of the people who received the paper actually read you ad?

It may be the biggest media in the world, but does it make it the most effective?

Speaking as a webmaster that works for a newspaper... go for the medium to small size towns and ask to advertise on their website. They have no clue how much, what they have is worth.. I have done a 360 with our site in a matter of weeks. :) They had a lot of traffic but were not using it.
