    I run a non-profit website and i want to display news content on the site.

    Can i copy and paste the information on my site and add where the contents coming from.

    Or do i need to ask permission for the content.

    I want to use the information from well known websites like the BBC or CNN.

    Here is an excerpt from the CNN Terms of Service. Hope this helps. I'm sure if you give credit to CNN/the writer and contact them first, they may let you.

    You can quote parts of a new story to use with your own unique, original content but you cannot copy a news article and use it for your own content. Not without potentially getting sued.

    Ask permission.... pay for use when needed....

    Just because you link back to the source does not mean CNN won't come after you, get permission first, I'm pretty sure if you do the right thing by asking first, and you provide a link back/credit (make sure you tell them you are going to do that if they allow you when your asking them) then they should let you, as it is free advertising.
