First time selling a site so hopefully I'm doing this right :) I've decided to try my luck at selling one of my sites, http://www.newsdrunk.com .

NewsDrunk is a news destination where highly opinionated writers posted their thoughts on popular news. It uses the popular WordPress program as its CMS, including a few WordPress plugins to aid in administration and customizing output. The theme/template is 100% custom by me.

Currently it runs WP 1.5.2. Revenue has been low; less than $5 since November '05, all from AdSense. The site has been up and running since August '05. The last news article was posted January 31, '06.

NewsDrunk generated an average of 1634 monthly unique visits and 6833 monthly unique page views for the months of November through February (the most active).

It is currently hosted under my own reseller account, so if you'd like to keep it where it is, I can do it for $9 per month.

Starting bid of $60 includes 2 domains, NEWSDRUNK.COM and NEWSDRUNK.NET, registered until August '06. Only .COM resolves for now. If bidding goes over $120, I'll throw in 2 months hosting for free.

I'll leave this offer open for a week. Any questions feel free to ask!

I will bid $90 potentially higher if you can answer some questions.

    1) Where do you get your photos from?
    2) How many writers contribute on a regular basis and would they continue after the sale?
    3) How many hits are you currently getting per month from the 3 major search engines?

Putting Adsense in a column where the column's title is "click these links" is not a really great idea.

I replied to your PM, dean. For now I'll recognize $70 as the high bid!

    To dean's questions:
    1) Some of the (earlier) photos are from MediaLink, a free newswire-type site. We stopped using them because the stories were getting more and more like PR releases (they ALL are, really) and less like news. The rest were gathered from various news sources.

    2) There was one writer who contributed regularly and up to 3 others who would post every now and then. They are not included in the package.

    3) This month only MSN has come in, with 12 unique hits so far. Last month it only got 2 uniques from MSN. But NewsDrunk IS listed in Google, Yahoo and MSN. It has a Google PR4.

Ethiccash, not sure what you mean, you mean hits from external links? If so, yes, but it will have to be later as I have appointments to go to right now. I can tell you right now, most traffic is from blog exchanges and the sites linked on the right sidebar.

Peter, I've removed the "click these links" image... that was a remnant from when it used another ad network, thanks for reminding me about that.

OK guys, I'm back with some more info.

First are some screengrabs from my AWStats script.
    Traffic:
    http://www.newsdrunk.com/nd_dec_gen.gif
    http://www.newsdrunk.com/nd_jan_gen.gif
    http://www.newsdrunk.com/nd_feb_gen.gif

    Referrers:
    http://www.newsdrunk.com/nd_dec_refs.gif
    http://www.newsdrunk.com/nd_jan_refs.gif
    http://www.newsdrunk.com/nd_feb_refs.gif

It seems there were a lot more hits from search engines than I thought (AWStats separates them). It's all in the last 3 images.

A few more things about the site... like I said, the theme is 100% custom by me, it also includes some Javascript and custom PHP for a "refer a friend" function. There are exactly 80 posts with 43 comments from 7 categories.

I've just created a full backup of the entire site via CPanel, plus a backup of the entire database via phpMyAdmin, so if the winner wants to host the site elsewhere it's packed up and ready to move.

$70 is still the top bid!

    I acknowledge a leading bid for $95.

xlguy, I decided to discontinue NewsDrunk because my guys and I were falling behind on the posting... what with our full-time jobs and other projects, it was difficult to keep posting news items in a timely fashion. Plus, I didn't think I could take it any farther on the little budget and time I had to dedicate to the site.

So instead of shutting it down I want to sell it in hopes someone with more online and marketing know-how can take it farther than I did.

I withdraw my bid due to another opportunity arising. But this seems a decent enough site so should be worth at least $100

Best of luck to all involved.

It seems broken in IE at @ 1024

Apparently the picture of those gay cowboys is stretching the whole thing too much :D

Are you sure it was the cowboy picture? When I checked it out it was one of the button images that was stretching it out (fixed now). I checked on IE both Mac and PC, it only showed on the Mac, cowboy pic looked fine.

Top bid is still xlguy at $105!

A closer end date would probably get you more bids.

People tend to forget about sales that last a week. This isn't ebay :)

And having to bump a week old thread to get bids looks desperate.

    Just my 2 c.

I don't know what you're talking about "having to bump a week old thread"... this thread is only 3 days old, and the one you linked to had daily postings...

But if people forget week-long auctions, I'll be more than happy to end this one tomorrow evening.

Yeah I was thinking I should have worded that better. What I was trying to do was get you to see your self in a few days bumping this thread just like that thread I linked to. I didn't mean right now.....

And err...... he only had 2 other people besides himself in the thread and only one made a bid. The "daily posts" you referred to were the thread starter bumping his own thread...

It's what happens when you drag out a sale for a week. Sure you "may" get a sale but you probably missed out on a lot of good buyers who check here every day, saw you were dragging it out for a week and ignored and forgot it. In fact if I weren't in here telling you this it would probably be way down the list already :D

So this is ending tomorrow now?

Congrats to ArthurKirkland who got me to end the auction early with a generous $145 bid.

Thanks to everyone who bid and posted in this thread!
