(Newbs Read) Who Else Is Getting Frustrated?

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by askbryanmiller, Dec 20, 2007.

Hey Guys, I've been really quiet for the last few weeks for
    several reasons:

    1) Started School again.
    2) Learning about IM.

In regards to 2, I am really frustrated. I've probably paid,
like, close to 150 bucks that I don't have on information
that has told me the same stuff, and even then, once I've
begun implementing the information, it's already begun
getting deluded, and the "secrets" are no long secrets that
make money, because places begin banning people left and
    right.

So my question is this (for starting newbies, and for
myself, who is frustrated beyond comprehension), is there
a single peice of information that you have ever learned of
that has genuinely helped you business in any fashion.

    Any fashion meaning:
    • Traffic
    • Sales
    • Clicks
    • List building
    • Promotion
    • Niche Research
    • etc.

Was the information free? Did it become saturated after the
"report" or article was sent out?

    Thanks, guys.
    Bryan

I believe that most of the information is free, however you will have to spend a lot of time digging up all of that free information. Since time is money, it's not necessarily your best option. I've spent the past few months learning about internet marketing myself, and although I've learned plenty, I still have a long way to go. Had I just bought a good book, I would have learned all that in under a week.

I'm not so sure there are any true secrets worth reading about. Any real secret is going to stay a secret, until so many people learn about it. That's when the "secret" is sold. There are however, many tips and tricks that you can learn about from a good book/internet searching.

Dont give up like suggested. But I dont think it was ever diluted. I am sure you just put a twist on info that was just repeated by many before.

Indeed it is hard to see something that you put a lot of time and hard work into go in a different direction than what you intended. Just get back on the horse. Refocus, Reinvent, Re-enforce. Just dont stop at step one. One will always have to re invent things they have done. Just now you know where you stumbled on and have chances to improve.

    Dont expect miracles in IM.

Learn a marketing course or a business, dont expect it to be an easy ride my friend...

i already spend a lot on money and time for internet marketing lesson. But, to be honest it will reward you soon. Don't too saturated with information in which will lead you to frustration. Write to do list and act faster are the main concept to fight as IM.

just like ninjashoes mention earlier, the best lesson is never give up :D

And that's the way a lot people make their money online (at least around places like this). You just figured out the secret by becoming the victim, in a sense.

Who makes more money with an ebook? The buyer who just paid to learn about a tactic that's already dead or has a short shelf life? No, it's the guy who sold the 8 page ebook he wrote in an hour to 100 different people for $15 a pop.

Know yourself how to find targeted audiance on case to case basis and how to approach them. Don't go for general IM advices everyone follows or you'd end up being yet another spammer, annoying 'internet travelling salesman' everyone tries to avoid. I read here at DP about a 17 year old girl that made a million with her web-site for MySpace backgrounds, she did not spam whoever or did marketing towards the entire world, she knew where to find her targeted audiance (teenage girls like her at MySpace) and what to offer them.

I remember a text where a couple of guys in NY working for the football (soccer) club tried to sell year-tickets, phones didn't ring, during lunch time one of them went down to a bar where Italian/Polish imigrants hung out and returned to the office with a pocket full of subscriptions. He knew how to reach targeted audiance in the case where billboard and newspaper ads didn't do.

I couldn't agree more - plus you must take nto account that most of these "make money" schemes are little better than pyramid schemes and the way that people who have bought them recoup their costs is by promoting it and selling it on until the market for it has become completely saturated. (you still see people trying to sell "get google ads for free" - long after everyone who reads forums or blogs has seen beyond that Emperor's new clothes)
I really don't think there are any tricks, secrets or magic spells, - it's all dull but necessary SEO, link-building, marketing and advertising. That isn't to say that aren't tips and wrinkles that you can benefit from - but you'll get them from here, and sphinn.com and the best of the SEO and marketing blogs, for free. Then you have to work at putting them into effect.

For those interested, FastCompany did a huge profile piece on the teenage girl with the MySpace site.

There's a reason why you go to these make money online sites and the sidebars are full of "Make Money" ads and affiliate links. It's an easy kill for these guys.

And the people making $X,XXX a day with affiliate marketing are also spending $X,XXX a day on pay-per-click advertising just to turn that much revenue and make any kind of profit. That's probably an aspect of this that some people don't realize.

I know there are exceptions and I'm speaking in very broad and general terms here but I hope I'm getting my point across...

;) Thanks for the honesty. I wish someone would have told
me first and foremost that the internet, although a great
medium to make money (and potentially lots of it) was also
an extremely difficult medium to break into for cash.

Thanks guys for all of your posts!

It takes time, and a lot of work to get yourself established. While the work isn't physical, there's still alot of it when it comes to building links and promoting the site.

Even though I'm a newbie, I realize it will take time to build a business online. I have been told that all the info I need is available freely online and I just need to do some research. Initially, I was tempted to buy a bunch of ebooks and programs, but then I realized that if someone found a way to make bucks online...why would they reveal it to potentially millions of folks?
