Hey all! I've dabbled in online marketing a little, but its been nearly two years and most of what I learned has been lost to gradual aging and too much Las Vegas living. I recently got the bug to come back and check things out again and that coupled with more knowledge in HTML and some programming spurred me to try and make a little change to lose in the poker room. After spending a little time reading through the Digital Point forums (and asking some embarrassing questions about Javascript), I stumbled across some information on BANS and read up on the concept. During my reading, I came across a post by Goran (its on the next page of this thread) that firmed my resolve to run with the idea in an attempt to make a little money. Instead of using BANS, I decided to use the same script that he did much for the same reasons as him: This was an experiment, and I wanted to outlay as little funds as possible while learning the ropes. If the script that he used wasn't for me, I could always give BANS a shot later on and only be out $5. Earlier today, I registered a couple of domains, purchased the JCE Tech eBay Script and got started on my quest to turn these sites into money making machines. I signed up for Commission Junction last night, and dusted off my Adsense account to get the information I knew I would need to setup the script. This morning, I spent about an hour before I started work setting up the domains and uploading the scripts, and then spent my lunch hour configuring the sites. The eBay configuration script needed very little information to get started, and as Goran said in his thread, it was amazingly simple to configure the script. I followed his advice and did not put a link to an RSS feed, entered the database and website information, and submitted. As Goran also mentioned, you will need to go into the template and manually enter your title, as the configuration file does not update that, but its an easy fix (while you're there, you will probably also want to change the links at the bottom of the page and remove the corny "Word of Advice" that shows up in the sidebar). All in all, from start to finish on two sites, it took me about an hour to get the scripts uploaded, find my way around the script and make the necessary changes. Most of that time was simply becoming familiar with how it was set up. My next goal will be to start getting the word out on the sites, and to customize the template more to my liking. If you would like to have a look at the sites, they are in my signature, and I want to give a big THANK YOU to Goran who started me on this journey. I know one of my sites is quite a bit like yours, but after all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
Glad to see someone found some use in my post. I think for an experiment you'll find that the initial investment will quickly pay off. Good luck on your journey and keep us updated
Thanks Goran. I can be undisciplined when it comes to updating, but I'll try and use this as a way to let everyone know the results that I'm seeing.
Stitch, i'm not 100% sure on either of those questions. I don't believe so on both, but this is literally day 1 for me and I'm still figuring a lot out.
Cocaine, I believe so, but I am not very verse at PHP yet. That is definitely one of the things I'm getting up on though because I would like to be able to add a good deal more content to these sites.
***************UPDATE*************** I have started to dabble in adding pages to the site, and with a little time and patience I'm not finding it to be too tough. Just a matter of copying one of the HTML templates provided, re-naming it and linking to it. HTML knowledge is a must, and anyone with a solid understanding of PHP would have no problem doing this. John, the guy that wrote the script, has been very helpful as well in this area.
