Before I start, this is my 1st post to Digital Point. Therefore if by mistake I offend someone, please accept my apology.

I am planning to start a website development venture. My strength is my knowledge of the subject matter that I will design my site(s) around. My weakness is writing code. The purpose for this endeavor is to eventually earn money from the site(s) I develop.

That being said, I feel it is important that I build the site(s) such that they are optimized to generate revenue. Therein lays my problem. I need a somewhat idiot proof method of site development. I have watched the demo of xsitepro. It seems rather straight forward. Any comments pro or con would be greatly appreciated. Also, any suggestions for alternatives would be welcome as well.

In addition, can anyone suggest other tools that would be helpful to me to optimize my site(s)?

Thank you in advance for your suggestions. Pro or con, your ideas are welcome.
    Antoine

    Welcome!

Unless you are willing to take time to learn and practice writing code, I would suggest using a platform that helps you with the process like wordpress. I have created a optimized wordpress site in the past and while I would still prefer to write my own code, it was pretty easy to manage.

I would optimize my site through the domain name, meta tags, H1 tag, images, and by consistently using my keywords in my content and I was successful in my ranking.

If you are a Mac user you can try Rapidweaver. It is a good starting point especially if you don't know how to code :)

Thanks for the replies. I'm familiar with Dreamweaver. I tried it out a few years ago when I was building a company website. I remember I also looked at Hotdog, maybe?????? It was about seven years ago. I actually picked up an html book and built a rudimentary site which consisted of about four pages. You know the type, a welcome page, about us, bios and contact. That is the extent of my experience and it was a long time ago. Now my goals have changed.

Perhaps I wasn’t clear in my initial post. I am inquiring about xsitepro because I need the ability to rapidly build a site that is optimized for Adsense, Amazon partnering and eCommerce. In addition to hoping to derive revenue from content based advertising, I have set up accounts with wholesalers whose products I wish to sell.

It seems that xsitepro, at least based on the demo video on their site, gives me the ability to rapidly build the sites I am interested in building with a measurable degree of ease. Not that I wouldn’t eventually like to do my own customization, I just don’t have a long learning curve. Rather, I would like to get the site(s) up now and then refine them through enhanced knowledge as I go.

Once again thank you for your replies.

Well, first of all. Nothing that big (as it seems) is going to be up and going straight away.

Wordpress is still (in my opinion) your best option. You can install a plugin called e-commerce wordpress plugin. Its customisable, has a checkout facility that you can easily manage and you can add as many products as you want. Install Wordpress, the Twenty Ten theme (the most stable probably) and the above plugin and you'll be halfway there. This may not give you everything you need right now, but it will be free, fast, and enable you to sell things straight away.

It will also index quickly into Google. And you won't need to know a line of code. Log into your hosting accounts cPanel (should've come with your login details or try domain,com/cpanel(enter your domain where 'domain' is) and install Wordpress using Fantastico.
