Newbie to AdSense, try AdSense or Not? Real Scenario

Okay here's a long, short story. I have a flower delivery website that i created for an ex-girlfriend years ago. she moved 2000 miles away and is out of the picture. As ugly as the website is, the website GETS flower orders. And on Valentines day, and mothers day we do about 4k in business and i return at least $1500 on each day, for orders we are unable to do.

THE PROBLEM... I DONT DO FLOWERS :) I actually pay a friend a % to do the orders, and i sometimes am the delivery boy.. :(

Would it make sense (adSense) to put ads on this site to make a little extra money, or would i be deterring buyers? Im asking because the site gets relatively low traffic. About 1100 unique visitors a month. Is it worth it? What kind of returns could i expect?

I would probably try to sell the site to a local florist if adsense wont make too much of a difference.

Does the type of site make a difference as well?? I have a mortgage site that also gets about the same type of traffic. should i do it there?

I would say it's definitely worth a try. You want to try and blend the ads in with the site so they look like they fit in. You won't really know if it's worth it till you try. One thing is that you should keep a sharp eye on it so that you don't end up displaying your competitor's ads and losing market, but the good thing is you can filter out your competitor's ads. Since you have a good site with good content, you should be fine. Lay the ads out and then ask for reviews so that you have optimal layout.

It probably would not make sense to keep adsense on the site around valentines day because then visitors would be going somewhere else to spend their money for just a few pennies if they click ads.. But for the rest of the year it sure would not hurt. The best way to find out is to try it and see how it goes.. if it's not worth it, just pull the ads..

Well if it was me I would try different things and see what makes me more money. By testing and comparing the results is the best way to make a final decision. You can take some "risks" for a couple of days and see what happens.

For example: You can Implement the Adsense code without making any other changes. Then redesign the website and try some other affiliate programs.

At the end you might still get $1500 from orders and additional $1.000 from adsense or other advertising. On the other hand you might get less sale e.x $500 and e.x $100 from adsense....

Just take some risks and compare results from multiple tests!!!

Can anyone give examples of what kind of traffic they get as it relates to $$$

    For example: 50 uniques a day = $20 a month

maybe that is something to ask as a new thread..

I know it will be different across the board because some sites are more general and some are more niche.

    but i am very curious.

It's really going to depend on how much the ads in your niche pay.. others can answer, but unless they have a flower-related site, it really doesn't tell you much..

ic so where do you find out how much for each category. I also have a mortgage site... I can assume that the keywords for those terms google would charge advertisers more??? right?

If you have a mortgage site, you might do well with YPn.. that's the one subject that YPn seems to have good inventory for.

I still say the best, only way to know for sure how much the ads will pay or how much you stand to make is to TRY IT !

This is just estimates for you to consider.
Estimated Overture Monthly traffic for keyword 'flowers': 2419089
    High PPC Bid Price: $3.99
Give it a trial and error project and you decide which is best.

Tera, I was responding to w3bmaster.. who said he thinks something is wrong when there is adSense on a site that sells things...

I was stating the problem, that i don't want to deliver flowers any more! haha! so yes that is a slight problem for me... But it does make some income...

    But this quote =

makes me think that a dozen clicks a day would be just as profitable...

yeah but then if u r not selling anything, why would people come to your site?

you gotta run a flower related blog/website with some info to continue to get those visitors

no, ill continue to sell the flowers, the money is good.. esp. on Vday and Mother's Day.. But if i lose some business to AdSense clicks. No Big Deal to me...

I already got approved, putting the code on a few of my sites now...

Don't place the ads all over your site. You run a business. So it is best not to put any ads.
