I'm not sure of my goals for this post, but I am wedding photographer and recently switched my focus from a flash based homepage to a blogger based page. I have done many of the SEO tips I read about on here (thanks everyone!), and finally am seeing some results in webmaster tools and traffic to my site, but still not much movement on google or in Alexa. So I decided to set some goals. Keep employing my techniques (basically trying to create back links by posting on forums, posting comments on other blogs, and signing up on directories) and get a google page rank of 1/10 by Christmas and an alexa rank above 5,000,000 (currently at 22,000,000). Any advice or expectations regarding how long that would take? Anyone willing to take a look at my site and provide web design tips? Thanks! Kristy
Sure, my advice would be to set realistic goals in the form of rankings, traffic, conversions.. alexa and pagerank are not always good values to go after. Rankings matter, your site matters, and so does your back link profile. So set goals on things that really matter. Need more info on important metrics? Since you mentioned webmaster tools, Monitor your search queries in webmaster tools and set goals there too, more clicks, more impressions for desired keywords. Also, set goals in the form of x amount of competitor links obtained (or 2 hours per week going through competitor links), articles published, blog posts published on your site, reaching out to other industry related bloggers, etc. Goals are a great idea and will really help you stay focused. Setting them up is the easy part, following through is the tough part!
Ok, thanks for the tips! I use blogger, so I love the stats already provided there, and then also webmaster tools and google analytics. Can ask what you mean by 'competitor links obtained'? Or I can search for it, im sure its been discussed elsewhere.
I think he means to get your competitor's url, go to yahoo and post it like this. link:http://competitorsite.com Code (markup):
