newbie question: why I need a banner?

    Hi,
    I am about to register for the network. Why do I need to enter a banner (which I don't have), if only interested in text links.

    If it is mandatory to enter one, can I just put in a dummy banner -- assuming it is not going to be used anywhere?

    There is an option to select either banner or text right above the anchor text line.

    You don't need to have a banner on your account. It will not change your impressions or anything else.

    I selected "text", but the form said I need to fill out everything (which would include the banner URL). Did I miss something?

    For text, you would need to fill out the fields available (banner URL isn't one of them though).
