Newbie question on Adwords Positioning

Hi all, I have been trialling Adwords (and Overture) for a couple of months now and have decided to stick with Adwords mainly because of its greater campaign flexibility over Overture. That said, i am becoming increasingly frustrated with the way my sites positioning seems to take a massive knock back when the clock rolls through midnight and a fresh day begins.

As i am based in UK (+8rs PST ) my sites, which might have climbed up to an average position of say 5 or 6 and a good CTR suddenly find themselves down in position 19 or even lower. Some of my sites target the US market and as they are ADULT orientated then this has an obvious impacts on sales at a time when the US market is still very much up and surfing. On top of this , the UK market is just waking up and suddenly my sites are nowhere to be seen.

I realise this is a consequence of the way Adworks works (CTR * CPC) etc but is anyone else out there feeling the same as me ?, is there a way round it?

Any thoughts most welcome, maybe i have the strategy all wrong ? i dont know. Thats why i joined this great forum.

I didn't know this was reset on a daily basis.

One way to improve positioning is to rank well for those words you 'bought'. SEO strengthens your SEM campaigns in that regard.

I'm having a terrible time with adwords, for three weeks I was in the top 6 placing's for my main terms, then the new month ticks over and I find myself down in one case to 50th position for those same terms, averaging in the high teens to 20es.
To top it off some of my best terms have been disabled although I see my competitors using them and I had a good click through rate with them.
As a consequence traffic has almost come to a stop and I figure anyone clicking on my ads that far down the list are only tyre kicking anyway.
I did raise my maximum bid but that didn't change anything.

Last night I started a couple of new ad groups and based on Googles estimate I placed my maximum bid to ensure that my main terms would be close to the 3rd to 5th position, I knew that could change but it started off okay and the terms were where they should be.
I got up this morning to find those same terms were way down the list again.
Trying to work with Google is the most frustrating experience I have ever had, there is no rationality to anything they do.

Thanks for the replys TOPS30 & CYCLOPS.
Im not quite sure what you mean about ranking well for 'Words you have bought TOPS30. Do you mean the KEYWORDS you initially select?

I threw in the towel with Overture because they were a pain to work with, they precharge your credit card, take at least 3 days to put your ads online and if you needed to make the smallest change they needed another 3 days to review it. But at least my ad placings were more stable and i think i probably got more qualified traffic from them. Perhaps theres more tyre kickers use Google than Overture!

I am fast approaching the throw towel in point with Google, for the small return i am getting in sales (for what is really a part time venture) the amount of maintenance time i am having to do with Google is far outweighing any returns. I practically have my lapto:)

Anyway, nice to know im not alone, is there a better PPC option anypone can recommend, mainly for the US market?

Why don't you run staggered ads?

I've gone through that before. I had a long running well clicked ad get bounced. I set up a new ad and it went fine for a few more weeks, but then it got bounced again. That's just life I guess. My problem was that I was attacking my target market by using keywords that were not directly related, but likely to be searched terms by my customers. I've never been in a term that had more than 5 or 6 ads, so I don't know what it would be like to be on page 3 or 4.
