Newbie Question about Redirection

I have a question about redirection and i am not sure if it can harm my site or what.
my site is #1 on goode in a particular keyword, but i used a redirection when they click the given link (because i am not gonna use the old one anymore, so i created a new page for that). But it has the same content anyway, just the urlhas been changed.
will i get banned from google for doing this?

thanks in advance. im really confussed.

Assuming it is a 301 (permanent) redirect, you should be fine. Is it on the same domain, just a different page?

You may notice a brief change in your results on Google but it should resolve itself within a few days. You will certainly not be banned for it.

No, as said you wont be banned for this.

However, I used to have my site in a sub dir and main domain was redirect to that dir. When I moved the site to the main domain dir, I increased in SERP. Was it age of the site, or the fact I removed the redirection. I belive it was both.

It is better if you do it on .htaccess using 301 redirect. :D

thanks a lot for the responses guys..

but i guess its too late. Google removed my site already, i dont know why...
is it because they think i have duplicate sites?
from: www.mysite.com/product/abc (the old site) to
    www.product/abc (the new site)

they have the same content...my plan would be to retain the old page and remove the new one...but the problem now is that i cant find my old page in Google anymore......SOS :(

You probably aren't banned. However, changing the structure of a site can confuse the Google bot for a while.

I'd go on with business as usual and not worry too much about it. Just make sure your site is functioning properly, improve it's benefit to your users, and get more links coming in. This will fix all your SEO problems.

thank you very much guys...yeah i will just use 301 redirection for the old page.
i guess i just panicked....i found out theres a "noindex,no follow" tag on the code...i shouldve looked at that earlier..anyway, we changed it and hopefully we'll get index again asap.

    thanks for the responses everyone!

    *lots of luck*
