I'd design a site before getting the domain (so the domain isn't sitting there with nothing on it till you make the site).

You can get free templates around but if you want to create your own site then learn HTML+CSS, start from there.

Look around the forum here and you will learn a lot.

After the domain comes hosting, then the design and advertisement...

If you have enough money then you can hire a member who design your site as you want otherwise you have to start learning HTML+CSS as twistedspikes said.

Or you could find a free template. There are some good starter ones out there these days.

you'd best learn html and css as already advised but if you don't want to take the scenic route, you could get dreamweaver. It'll do if you just want a simple site.

Or if you have the money, hire a professional to design your site for you.

Your best option, as already said, is to learn HTML and CSS, that way you can design your own sites and not rely on Dreamweaver or anybody else!

There are some good free templates here: http://andreasviklund.com/templates/.

Also, I agree that Joomla would be a good way to go. It has a steep learning curve but it is open source and you don't have to learn much programming that way. You can check it out at www.joomla.org.
