I´m new to affiliate marketing and I have been reading different forums for a while now and I thought I was ready to make some money

but this is what I happened

I invested $22 on Chopper Tattoo with 0.17 per click CTR 2.1% total clicks 161

$50 on Court Records 0.18 per click CTR 1.2% total clicks 59

they both lasted for about 2 hours and I lost all my money
    I didn´t make no sales :(

I dont have a landing page I just did direct affiliation with adsense

what do you guys think I should do?
Should I just quit before my lossed become higher :(

or should I just stick to products hardly anybody is selling

thanks in advance for the help

First turn off the content network in AdWords. Second your CTR is horribly low. You need to improve your ad to get that up. Next, you're probably targetting words that are too broad. Use phrase matching to make sure the person is really searching for what you want. If you just target the word "court" you're gonna get a million unrelated searches (which also will contribute to your lower CTR). That's just some general advice. Also, do some more research on longtail and AdWords, and improving your CTR.

    Yikes!!!

First off, you need to set a pretty tight budget. I'd keep it to something like 5-10$/day MAX until you know you will profit from setting it higher.

Chances are, you bid on a lot of unrelated keywords that sent people who weren't really ready to buy to your page. I'd remove all your keywords and start adding them back in slowly, starting with ones that really accurately describe what you're trying to promote, at a minimum of 3-4 words per keyphrase.

Also, the benefits of a landing page are enormous. I'd highly consider learning about them and setting one up for your purposes - you can leverage so much more for your money than by simply sending the clicks directly to the advertiser, especially if you're just starting out.

As far as products, nearly any product can be sold if you are up to the task! Just make sure to refine your campaigns to the point where anyone who clicks on your adword ad is highly likely to be someone interested in buying your product or benefiting from the service it provides.

From what I read in a few forums 2.1% is not low.

2.1% is pretty average, as long as you're above 1% you'll be fine.

If my CTR ever gets below 1.5% on any campaign....for me....
I am back at the drawing board to make any needed minor tweeks to keywords and/or bids. Although I too have read that a CTR above 1.0% is okay.

It can be good to have these experiences as long as you learn from them.
I remember those days. I remember losing alot more than $70 dollars in 2 hours too. Call it my Adwords "rites of passage"....I don't know. lol.

    Cheers! :)

How do you phrase match? Is it keyword1+keyword2+keyword3 etc..
or is it in quotations or brackets?

Well, another method is to buy adword vouchers, therefore investment of $20, total adword spend of $100.. Therefore you can get a taste to see what works, and how to improve your campaign.

I would say, using your own landing page to explain is a must, therefore drum up more interest, helping to build your sale.

First thing you need to do is to change your mindset: Affiliate marketing is a business. You need to do this:

    1) Educate yourself
    2) Take action on what you learn
    3) Set up your goals
    4) Set up a budget
    5) Learn to test everything you are doing

Conclusion: you need to be serious about your business. again, it's a business.

If you never did business before, there are some good and cheap book on Amazon.

Note: This was not a lost, it was an investment, but you did a mistake since you invested without learning and testing.

I am happy for you because now you know this: you are stronger, and you will not do this mistake again. Congrat.
