Hello Guys, Im new to this forum but have looked at it over the years. I have never created an actual website using software, wordpress or anything else and have always wanted to create some sites that make me a passive income. I own several domain names for different niches and have never done anything with them and really not sure were to start. I just bought cheapmontanaland.com and wanted to know if anyone has made any money from a real estate website? And if so what is the best way to go about it? Should I try and contact local realty companies in the area and ask if they want to advertise space on the site and have banners and tracking setup or just go through zillow and trulia and any other company like that and place banners? Any help on this would be great!!
The people making money from real estate websites are the real estate agents/realtors. You might be able to list land sales on your site (there are apis for getting the info) and put ads up on the site - ads will be your income stream. You're unlikely to get a realtor paying to advertise their listings until you have a proven track record. They'll need buyers telling them about how they use your site on a weekly basis to earn their trust. As with all ventures - download a business plan template and work through your ideas and how they're going to be different from your competitors, how you're going to serve your visitors, etc. If the timeline to getting a meaningful income is too long you may need to rethink your ideas.
Focus on gaining experience, not on money. if you have zero experience.... then creating a website that says "hello world" is your first step.

I guess your options are to become some kind of an online unofficial broker or as SarahK says to go for add revenue. I know somebody who does unofficial online brokerage for catamaran yachts. catamaransite.com it is called. What he does is selling specifically catamarans and only this. As this is 'niche' and he has been doing this for years he is well known for having the site where to check for interesting deals. Licensed yacht brokers usually go for 10% commision and that is a lot of money on a 1.000.000 sale. Catamaransite asks for a fee per month and that is his revenue. Maybe you can figure out something likewise for the niche 'large montana farmland for sale'
