Newbie here with some search engine questions

Hey everyone, have been reading through the forums the past day or so and I'm having a serious case of information overload.

Anyways, I'm trying to get in the game here, but have a few questions.

First - if there is any good "newbie" resources available for adsense marketing (documents, website) that any of the pros here can recommend, please recommend them!

Second - How does a site get picked up by Google, Yahoo, MSN etc? Do I have to submit my site to them, or do their spiders automatically find new sites?

I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get underway, but thanks to everyone in advance for their help!

    Regards,

    Barry

Hey Barry, welcome to Digital Point.

You'll have to qualify your first question with a little greater specificity to get the targeted information you're seeking I think. However, you might start with getting the information from the source for starters, and then ask more specific questions you might have after doing a little "homework":

    Google AdSense Common Questions

    Google AdSense Program Policies

You can submit your site directly to the major engines, but they will eventually get "found" by the spiders on their own. Personally, I find it more sufficient and efficient to get a link from an existing website and the bots are more likely to find you a little more expediently. Just in case, here's a few to get you started if you want:

    Google Add URL
    Yahoo Submit
    Submit Your Site to MSN
    ExactSeek
    WhatUSeek

Thanks a bunch - to clarify what I meant, I'm new to online overall web marketing, so any information to get started (like you provided) is what I'm looking for.

    Thanks for the info!

Their are plenty of threads here at DP about adsense. If you can't find what you are looking for, just post and ask. As far as being indexed by the search engines, it is fastest in my opinion to submit to them first. Their are millions of sites online, and the SEs will find you based on sites that have linked to you that are already indexed. If found that manually submitting to the SEs gets your pages indexed much faster.

No need to submit go engine like Google. It will eventually find you. You might want to get a paid submission with Yahoo. It may increase your popularity down the line. Other engines with also pick you up.

You can also generally get sites indexed pretty fast by sticking them in your signature here, buying a PR 5+ link (can get them cheap here in the link purchase forum - buy for a month, then ditch it when you're indexed), or once you've got a site of your own with some PR, then put a link on the home page of that site to the new one.
