hello to introduce my self i am Eiso Kant, a dutch webdeveloper ( designer and scripter ) making his first attempt at a site which has to make a minimum of 25 euro's ( i think it's 35 dollars ) a month on selling ringtones, and wallpapers etc.. I will have to sell an avarage of 45 ringtones a month to obtain this goal. I have never attempted SEO before, so this wil be my first shot. After reading some articles i came to the decision to make a choice on what my main keyword phrase would be, i went online visited a word tracker, and put in the term

ringtones, in the netherlands this is searched for 12000 times a day , but this searchterm at google brings back 12.900.000 sites,

polyphonic ringtones, in the netherlands is searched for a 1000 times a dya but only brings back 2.460.000 sites.

The number one spot is held by a site with pageranking 5 ( this is for both ).

My sites name: mobile-tunes.nl ( registered today, online tomorrow )

My goal is ofcourse to end up in the TOP 10

Which one should i chose: Polyphonic ringtones or Ringtones .

Any tips are welcome, also off topic !

You should choose both. Since you are also trying to get into a highly competitive field, i.e. mobile phone ringtones, you will need to get back to Wordtracker and using the paid option, do some serious research about all of the sub-keyword phrases that may also generate page views.

It is generally easier to optimise for two or three word phrases than for single word phrases. Besides using polyphonic ringtones, you still get the word ringtones in your content.

You will have more than one page on your site so you can probably find other terms that you can optimise each page for. As an example, suppose my site is about socks. I might optimise the general term on my homepage but on each internal page have a different focus - woolly socks, silly socks, bed socks, etc. You can use mobile phones, poly tones, polyphonic tones, monotones, mobile wallpaper... whatever.

Use them naturally in the content of your pages. Use them in anchor text internally and when organising backward links from other sites. Don´t overdo it though eiso, you don´t want to go overboard.

Try running some of the pages that appear at the top of the serps through a few of the online analysis tools and you´ll get a rough idea of keyword density to aim for.

I would suggest trying to come up with at least 150 words of content for each page.

I concur with intially trying to rank on keyword phrases. New sites are already fighting an uphill battle, so the likeliness of hitting on very competitive keywords is honestly unrealistic. However, it may be possible to hit on a keyPHRASE of less competitiveness and as you build traffic, rank and popularity, you can tweak down from 3 to 2 and 1.

Create more than just a single page site too. On your secondary pages, create a file structure that is complimentary of your market, subject genre and keywords. After your index page, you could have - example only - domian.com/ringtones.html; cell-ringtones.html, etc. Just make sure that each page has its own content, don't just cut/paste to create a separate page.

The same should be said for your page titles and meta too. Keep specific to your content and keywords, don't simply re-clone from one to the next. Basically, don't get lazy, get creative.

Developing additional content pages should not be too difficult. List a few ringtones, definitions and descriptions per page. Smaller pages are easier and faster for viewers to go through anyway - just have at least 150 words of content per IMO, but try to keep to less than say 500.

Ensure you have good internal linking.

And as mentioned, try to get good links coming to your site in the form of good keyword relevant text links.

When your site is done, post it here and other forums for review and suggestions - be prepared to sift through lots of suggestions and even some hard criticism.

Also, many of us have web links, directories and the like, when your site is down, don't be shy to seek getting free listings. (Look at my sig block - quit looking link for an example).

    Good Luck and Happy Ranking!

    Good Luck Eiso!

Why not use the notepad in your computer for typing out some text - you can always save different versions and then refer back to it as needed. Also, when you've come up with something you like, you can simply copy the text over into your code.

However, I often resort back to the pen and paper too - it seems to fire up a few braincells and spawn some creativity :)

Also, if you're getting out your pen and paper - create an outline of what you want your site to look like.

    For example:

    Home Page
    Movie Ringtones
    Celebrity Ringtones
    Types of Ringtones
    Privacy

... you get the picture; it'll help with developing your content and getting it in the right places maybe.

I would go for the more longer tail keywords if you are new to this. They 'Generally' have less competition.

Also, Page Rank isn't the only metric to look for when assesing the competition. You should look at the backlins the page has and also the quality of those links. Domain Age, Page and Domain Authority.

SEOMOZ and MajesticSeo or Ahrefs.com can help with this.
