Newbie Domainer - AdSense or Yahoo?

I'm entering the fray of Domaining and AdSense and am wondering if Yahoo might pay better percentages. Does anyone have comparisons and real world experience? I'm also interested in any other Pay Per Click programs that are out there that I'm not aware of.

Since you're new, try Adsense - experiment with them, then switch to Yahoo.

Speaking generally, Adsense has a good payout with good CTR (click-through rate), YPN (Yahoo) has a great payout but with much lower CTR (Poor targeting/low inventory issues).

There are some grumblings that YPN payouts will go down when Beta is over (some claim to see this beginning even now, while some also claim inventory and targeting is beginning to improve a bit).

Chitika is the only other PPC program that is really considered upper tier (and they are losing ground owing to some recent unpopular moves on their part). Chitika can be run (with certain restrictions) alongside Adsense or YPN. They work best if your site is about something tangible, that can be bought and sold; less so with, for example, a political blog.

There are loads of second string ad vendors and even more third, fourth, etc strings as well. Some people claim to do well with them, but most view them as for people who have been kicked out of Adsense and have no alternative.

There are a few other names I hear, such as Casale, who I belive specialise in things like popunders and "interstitials". I have no experience with them.

I personally avoid companies in the lower tiers as I was burned when one called Target First went belly-up and I lost some scratch.

I'm sure others will chime in with more specific info (and disagreements with my thoughts!).

    Good luck!

BTW, the term is not Domainer, it is either Domaineer or Domainatrix.:D

Definitely Yahoo!...Google's getting too big for their collective britches. They've turned into another microsoft.

    Plus Yahoo pays better.

I think you really must try them both, Yahoo paid a LOT more in the beginning for me, then the amount I made or still do per click is getting less and less, now I am making less than I did with AdSense on all of my sites. I am switching back to all AdSense after Jan 1........

Well, my guess would be to go Adsense since the Yahoo publisher program is not out of Beta, and you have to be accepted in via an invite on their part (which may not happen - and it hasnt happened for many of us out here)

You don't have to be invited to YPN.

It plainly says on their website you can apply to get in.

Ok, i had a bad choice of words there - but either way you say it - there is a limited number of people being let in to the program by Yahoo. I applied months ago, and havent heard anything.

If you apply to google, and you have actual content on your site - then you stand a very very good chance of being accepted.

So maybe that means YPN is being selective during BETA or looking for only certain types of sites during BETA.

Yes Google will let any crap site in but Google also will kick you out without batting an eye.

yes selective is good - but whats to say Yahoo wont boot poeple out just as easy as Google? If you are doing something shady then they have to kick you out - any company in the PPC business has to be tough when it comes to fraud - so i imagine once yahoo comes out of Beta, we will see the same sob stories about people getting kicked out.

anyway back to the original topic: Y! or Google? apply for both - more than likely you will only get accepted into Google - If you happen to get into Y! - great job, and test them both out.

Shoemoney once wrote a script that lets you choose the % of times your pages show either Y or G ads. if i find the link - ill post it here.

if your new and dont get much traffic, then Adsense would be better for you because the click-through rate is good. YPN will be better for you if you get alot of traffic because the CTR sucks
