Newbie Direction Needed

    Good morning all,

I'm new to the online marketing world. I currently have an offline business. I would like to try to get sales online, hopefully eventually to be able to build a nice book of online sales. My product/s looks to be be very competitive online. I did some keyword research and very competitive. So I think keywords might be out of the question.

My product fits under a general category but I would say is very specific within the category. When I did keyword research for the niche within the category not much search volume. But I know there's a market because I sell offline. I realize if the keyword isn't getting search volume then it defeats the purpose.

Then I was looking into social media like FaceBook.

Since my product/s are competitive on google, does this mean that social media is also out of the question?

Any advice on how I can procede to market my product/s online?

"I currently have an offline business"<----that's key. Don't treat online differently. You know how to market. Now, competition is good; you don't want a niche where noone is buying. Try forum marketing, article marketing for a start; onthe forums, add as much value as possible (and ENJOY doing that; because it feels good), and add your site in your signature, and just write good articles.

Thank you. So I don't necessarily have to compete with SEO tactics like keywords, optimization etc?

Never say keywords is out of the question!

Good keywords is a must in online marketing for just about any method you will be using. Just use a good keyword tool, and pick low competition keyword phrase that has between 400 - 1000 global monthly searches. You can hire someone to find good keywords for you easily.

    Good luck!

Since you have a brick and mortar store, I presume you have more of a local target audience than across the web. In that case, I would suggest you to take a look at Google Places. What that will do is that whenever someone in your town/city searches for your product, you will get listed along with a map of your store's location - On the front page - without you having to learn one technique of SEO.

Besides, since you already have a successful offline business, treat online as an extra channel. Do you offer your product in a cardboard box? Get your website name printed on it. Sending out flyers? Have your website included. You basically add your website URL every place you get to reach your customers with.

Hi what I'm wanting to do is business nationally. I don't have a brick and mortar store I work from my house and I hit my target. I was hoping to eventually generate sales that I wouldn't have to hit the pavement as much. My goal is some kind of online presence with my product/s.

Social media is a good start because you can brand yourself easier than jumping into the seo keyword game. You'll be able to reach out to people and possibly go viral. I wouldn't rule out search engines completely, but that can come second imo.

That's what I want to do brand myself because I haven't seen a seller that focuses on my niche, it's a niche in a highly competitive market but no one knows about it or know it exists unless it's shown to them, then it's like 'wow'. So no one would search for my niche much.

    Hello my friend,

Dont be put off by high competition. If you know what to do then a little high competition is fine. I often go for high competition search terms because they bring in much faster results once you rank with them. Look into learning how to optimise youtube videos they rank much higher and easier than alot of other types of content online.

Once you learn how to make a video; keyword optimise the title, the video content, the description box and the tags with your main keyword then the second results in the google keyword tool and then the third. Seperate the tags with commas. Then you have to build backlinks with your keywords to that video. (backlinks are links that point to your site from other sites) (The higher page rank the site the better it is for your rankings)

Ofcourse before you do any of this the first thing you need to do is create a marketing funnel. You need to decide what sort of campaign you are going to use for your business. I always build targeted lists it is in my opinion the best way to quickly generate sales and build relationships with your clients.

So you will need a domain name and a hosting account for your list building page and then ofcourse you need to create the page or outsource the work.

You need to get an autoresponder account and set up your email campaign and then you need to drive traffic to your website.

It all takes time but if you put in the effort it will pay off.

If you want some direction and more indepth advice please PM (private message) me

    Kindest Regards Louis Doughty

PS When it comes to social media you want your nich to be super competitive. The more companies that offer a similar service to you the better.
When dealing with social media especially facebook the aim is to become a well known super helpful authority in your market space. There are
ways to to make people gravitate to you from other business pages in your niche...

    Good luck...

For me, i usually would not target on general category while it most happen to low search category. Most of people would like to direct look for the category to get what they want.
For me , i will think of what else your book able to enter in the category.
By selling a book , i believe , twitter, article write up and blog posting or even guess post will help you to promote your book well.

What you need to do is, talk to your potential customers. Not at them. Don't just bring new information to them, for information's sake (we're all over informed - about things we don't even care about, often times; since marketers don't remember to take their customers into the account when marketing - so we don't need more information). Just use your common sense - what would people be willing to pay for in your niche? When you know that, you go find those people. You don't need high numbers; you need people who love you. You also want to create a business that people WANT to see succeed. Good luck with this.

i think you are moving yourself in right direction. Today the internet is becoming big market for all the business. If you are already establish in local market then you should enter in the internet business. It will double your sales and will help you to expand it in international market. As you said first you are going to start promoting your product by taking the help of social media website like facebook and twitter. I must say it is good source for getting connected with your customers online. You can offer some discount coupon or some sort of offer to attract them for joining on your business facebook page. After successfully proceed with this strategy you can keep connected with them by sharing different information about your product. You can share new product online, aks customer to rate them, offer free sample as advertising purpose etc.

Social media strategy is made to create brand awareness of your company or product. If you are going to impact search result then take benefit of SEO Services. It will help you to rank high on search engine.

"If you are already establish in local market then you should enter in the internet business."<----yeah; while not forgetting the strategy that made it work offline! Marketing is marketing; only the vehicles, of it, are different online from offline. I'd suggest using twitter, following the big people in your niche, and building relationships with them; and tweet, rather than IM them, so everyone else sees your association.

I used to run the online marketing division of an offline agency. Which offline medium is your business currently getting sales from?
