Newbie CTR question

    'Newbie' help great appreciated!

Within my first 'adwords' campaign, I have two 'Ad Groups'.

One, with focussed but expensive keywords, has a great CTR of 15%

The other that I am using more for testing of obscure keywords/keyword phrases, has an appalling CTR of 0.48%

I understand that Google adjusts bid price and position based greatly on CTR performance, and I am concerned that google may not treat 'ad groups' individually amd therefore the 'ad group' with a poor CTR could be affecting the price/position of my good 'ad group'?

!. Am I correct in this assumption?

    2. If I am, is the solution to move this poor ad group to another campaign?

    Help/comments greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Mik

The CTR does help determine the final cost per click along with the bid and quality score, but this is calculated per keyword rather than AdGroup.

So it's the CTR of the individual keywords you should be more concerned about improving rather than the overall CTR of your ad.

I would suggest using the exact match and optimising your ad text to include the keyword if you aren't doing this already.

    Hope this helps,
    Kev

Do the same rules apply for content ads, as well as search ads?

My recommendation is to test 3 different ads. Each with a diffetent component. Weed out the weakest performing ads and then refine the best.
