Newbie - Closing a site & setting up redirects?

    Hi

I’m closing down one of our websites, the hosting plan will end on the day the site closes. I then plan to point the URL to a page on one of our other sites (hosted elsewhere) to inform people that this site is no longer available.

I want all URL’s www.closedsite.com/..., belonging to sub-directories etc to redirect to the page www.closedsite.com .

I’m looking for some help on the steps do I need to take to make this happen.

Do I need to contact the domain registrar – what do I need to ask them to do?
Do I need to contact the host of the site that I will be redirecting to?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    T

you can use domain forwarding if supported by your registrar, or add the closed domain as a parked domain to the other domain you want to redirect to.

thanks for your reply. How to I set up the domain so that all the url's after the root forward to the root domain?

I want to make sute that all links to different pages on the site forward to a single page informing the visitor that the site is not closed.

e.g. if someone clicks on a link www.closedsite.com/publications/annualreport I want them to be brought to www.closedsite.com

    Thanks

Apache supports .htaccess, IIS wont...check up with your host for help.
