I run a brand new humor site (just started in October), and am curious at what point to introduce AdSense ads. I currently average about 1,500 unique visitors per day, although about half of these are just viewing my RSS Feed so wouldn't see the ads. My concern is that if I put up ads too soon, I might chase people away. My goal is to start introducing some games and original videos after the holidays and try to hit 100,000 uniques per day ... should I wait until then to use Adsense (I currently only have a tiny little hidden link window off to the right). Also, if I have questions like this should I post a link to my site, or just wait until my sig gets activated? I don't want people to think I'm trying to spam the forums. Sorry for the dumb questions! Anita
well you could have put them up from day one, just don't stick them where there annoying, blend them with your site, dont make them a eye sorer
your site is only one month old and you're getting 1500 uniques a day?! That's pretty amazing Do you run a PPC campaign? FYI text links work the best, and as supersteve said, blend them in
I've been rather lazy with it ... no campaign or directory submissions, but one week where I had some extra time to write good content I was listed on Fark and Slashdot and VH1 (TV and web). Two of my posts each had over 30,000 uniques ... I think this is where most the regular RSS readers came from.
I think your site is ready for ads. Do put them in unobtrusively, and start slowly (say one ad-unit per page).
Thanks, maybe I'll start small. I just don't want to reduce the stickiness of my site (since most people are not getting there from a search engine, they are typing in the address).
Congratulations on doing so well in so little time.. I would definitely say that its time to start introducing ads. I would start small, one or two ads per page, then see how that effects your user base, after a little more time you'll be able to tweak the ads and figure out what works best. Good luck!
