Okay, kind of hard to explain. I feel like a n00b so I'll ask this.

    Here is an example.

2 Keywords: sea to sky ----- sea to sky highway

I guess I curious. I should choose sea to sky and not sea to sky highway thinking that I would capture both keyword phrases if they were typed into Google? Does that make sense?

In other words, when I choose a keyword or keyphrase, I MUST choose one or the other, and not start using them both together thinking I will gain an advantage? It's somewhat confusing to me. Another example is Vancouver or Vancouver BC. Using Vancouver BC as a keyword would not optimize for just the keyword Vancouver if that was being searched for?

I really hope this makes sense in the form of a question. Killing two birds with one stone, or is that basically watering down my seo?

Thanks if you can offer thoughts on this.

    Hi
When you are trying to build links back to your site, it's important that you vary your backlinks. So I would use both each on a different page. And would also find other variations of the keyword to use

It just does not look natural if all the backlinks to your site have the same anchor text

    I hope this helps

    Hello there,

When you are targeting a specific keyword for one page of your website, you want to make your main keyword as basic as possible, so you would want to target "Sea to Sky" as your main keyword for the page. But, haven't you ever heard of long tail keywords? Those are the keywords that you get after you optimize your page for your main keyword. Your long tail's will come in naturally depending on what words you used in your content.

When building links to the page, try to use a mixture of the main keyword as your anchor text and then a few variations of the main keyword. Try to use variations that can be found on the same page that you are linking too. So if somewhere in the content of your page you had the word "Highway", then you could use that as one of your variations for you anchor text when building links. So you could make the link "Sea to Sky Highway". As long as your main keyword is still in the anchor text, then you are doing good!

The whole point of changing it up with the anchor text is to try to look as natural as possible. You want Google to think that other people are linking to your site automatically. If Google thinks that your trying to manipulate the search, then you will be in danger of a penalty or filter.

    Good luck!
