Newb question about where to start??

    Hi all,
    I am a total newb to setting up an online business, however, I have a technical background, (so at least I have a start there). :rolleyes:

    I have been thinking about what sort of business I could start, however, I’m not sure where to start with it all. My main 3 questions are,

    - How do people make money online? So far I have the following,
    > Affiliates/banners
    > Selling a product
    > Add words and pay per click etc


    What else is there?

    Once I understand these categories I now wonder,

    - What business models are there and where is the best place to start?
    - What category carries the highest chances of success?


    Any comments, recommendations etc greatly appreciated.

    You will need to find something that you "know" about, for example you can make very good money from web hosting, but theres a package that comes with web hosting. Forget about the kids, the nice walks and even food sometimes lol.
    There is so much in there like ..

    Support requests - you will need to do this yourself until you hire someone down the line.
    Sales - Again you will need to handle the sales requests by yourself
    Marketing - You will need to sell your product to a targeted audience, this will take up %90 of your time within the first year alone

    Then there is the big issue.. MONEY
    Starting an online business can be very very expensive, but as all business ventures its a risk. You will need to write a business plan, for example i will go back to the hosting..

    Dedicated server - Cost $250-1000 per month
    Web site - You could pay anything up to $1000+ for a custom design
    Legal fees - Lisenseing laws
    Web site software - Helpdesk, billing software your looking at 500+
    Etc etc..

    My point is, Just stop and think. Take a few days searching around.Seee what is on offer, How much you can afford to spend.
