I am going on holiday to New York. Me and my mate are looking for somewhere to stay. We are going on the 5th December 2009 to 12th December 2009 and now looking at hotels to stay in.

Does anyone know anywhere for less than £500 (for both of us) for the week in new york?

Less than 5 miles in from new york would be great.

    Hotel
    or apartment. Not a HOSTEL.

Gonna have trouble. I was there for September 11 so it was somewhat expensive - we stayed at the Ramada in Long Island City which was cheap enough at the time, and then on the 13th (when vacancies appeared) we moved into the Ramada Lexington Ave - right near the Chrysler building, Empire State Building, 28th Street Station and the Lexington markets and an easy enough walk to Times Square. It was more expensive though.

Can you give us some $numbers?

I've heading to NYC next year, but the internet gets kinda useless when you're searching for "cheap hotels New York City".
All I want is a door that bolts from the inside, and a sink with running water.

:) I think it's time that DP set up an international exchange program. :)

I just got back from New York. I ended up driving out of the city north to Newburgh, NY. Very nice Super8 there that is reasonably priced. The OCC showroom (Orange County Choppers) is in Newburgh which was cool to visit also.

Check the travel agencies like expedia, travelocity, hotwire, etc. Surely you can find some good package deals.

Sorry, can't help with accommodation, but enjoy NY. I loved it! It'll be worth the money!

Long Island was $180/night (108GBP) and Lexington was over $500/night since we were walk-ins, but the reservation rate was $200/night.

Worth pointing out too that everything cheaper was a hostel or too far out from Manhattan.
