I recently submitted my website, Monday March 13th, and I would like to know if any other has done the same. I know the $299 is quite much to get a listing in the directory but I have the money so why not. I received an email saying: "Dear Yahoo! Directory Submit Client, The URL you submitted for expedited review <url:http://www.xxxxxxxxxxx.com> has been received by Yahoo!. Your submission request has been assigned a unique ORDER ID: xxxxxxxxx. (Important: Please hold on to this ID number, as it is the only way we can track the progress of your request. Save this email for your records - do not delete it.) You have been charged $299 on your credit card for participating in Yahoo! Directory Submit. Because you have opted to use the Yahoo! Directory Submit service, a member of our editorial team will respond to your submission within seven business days." Now, how many days has it taken for you guys to be notified when using the paid submission option? Do you recommend to wait for couple of weeks or should I contact them immidiately on Monday when a week has passed? Thanks Boingo
I usually get an answer on the fifth business day exactly. You probobaly will have an abswer today. If not by monday. I have never had it take longer than that. But if it does by all means try and contact them. They are usually pretty helpful if you use the form on their help section.
Further, has anybody ever been declined a directory listing when paying $299 and if that was the case why wasn't it? Boingo
I'd be uber mad if I paid 299 only to be declined. As I understand they don't refund you the money in such a case.
Hi, you have to count the weekend, let's say by tuesday or wednesday if your site is accepted you will see it in the directory. If not they will tell you why, if they don't accept your site and you think that it deserves to be there and you have respected all the rules, just fight back. Good luck!
If you're paying 299 for a listing, odds of someone not following the submission guidelines is slim to none. So i'd assume most listings are accepted.
I would also imagine that most listings are accepted. But just like most sites they will not accept submissions where the site could do damage to theirs or is just totally awful.
Got this today from Yahoo! "We're sorry to report that your site did not qualify for listing using the Yahoo! Directory Submit service. Yahoo! does not accept listings for online gambling sites. Online gambling sites are those that have gambling as their central theme, including those that accept wagers or require payment in exchange for the chance to win prizes, as well as sites that offer both information and links related primarily to the promotion of online gambling. For this reason, your order has been forwarded to our billing team for a full refund of the Yahoo! Directory Submit fee." So it seems I will at least receive a refund! What is strange with this decline is that we are a poker releated portal with our main objective to inform our viewers with updated and poker related content. We are not a wager poker site but a big portal with sections like, rules, strategies, articles, probabilites, odds calculator, famous player biographies, books, reviews etc. In the "poker" category of the Yahoo directoy there are 59 listings and I found at least 5 sites in thirty seconds with banners linking to poker sites with promotion text and at least 2 sites with exactly the same theme as ours. Maybe we should launch a 20 page site only with only a rules and news section listed and NO information whatsover then add 3-4 banners, this might do the trick Any suggestions or should we just stand down this fight?
This is exactly why running free directories would suck and would lead to less quality for everybody.
I thought that you would receive a refund if your site were not accepted. It is not nice that you have been declined, but it is nice to now that they make sure their site is full of what they want and they just don't approve anything just for the money. That is how to build a quality directory.
I can't disagree that it should be a quality directory. We wanted to be listed there mostly for the SEO purposes it generates but also since its quite a competetive niche although many websters dont like this particular niche. I have thrown away an appeal (are allowed to send one as I understand) to tell them "look at this site A with only 5 pages...our site has tons of regularly updated content and this site B has 4 sections which all link to..." but it might just be you are correct saying that the category is getting crouded. Will let you know how it turnes out.
Hi boingo, you seem to be in the gambling business too! I have online sportsbooks and casinos, we should give a try by working together. If you are interested, PM me. Best regards, Frank.
