Hey guys, so I have just started designing my own templates and was wondering if anyone had any opinions they would like to share with me about my first one.

You can view the template here - Template 1

Any opinions on how I could make it better and if you have any tips that could help it look more professional would be very appreciated!

    Thanks! :D

Dull the black, make it a dark grey.
Dull the green too, make it a few pixels thinner, unless it has use as a navigation bar?
What's with the grey box at the very bottom?

That is my personal preference ideas, probably not everyone else's but hey ho :)
    Not a bad effort :D

Yeah I thought the black was a bit to bold, and the green bar is a navigation bar but I will reduce it.

The grey is for my footer links etc :)

    Thanks a lot!

    Here are my thoughts:

    1. Layout is O.K.
    2. Reduce font size
    3. Increase line space (a little)
    4. Use graphical header (if you are not so worried about the size of your site)
    5. Your footer seems to be incomplete, add few site links.

    Good luck,

    Thanks! :D

Do you reckon more people would like a graphical header like that of my forums - http://www.gamercity.co.uk/forums/

or more a sort of background image that is a gradient with a cool graphical logo?

I am not sure as if I go for the game sort of graphical header then i could run the risk of alienating people who want to buy the template. But I still see loads of sites that use a graphical header so I am pretty unsure :/

I'm gonna try and create two that I can change and then I'll post a poll or something! :D

Thanks for the advice though! I increased the line space and reduced the font size :D and have started work on the footer! :D

That logo text thing on your forum looks sweet - simple yet in your face.
If you include the font you used for the banner text, and maybe explain a little on how to make their own?
Most people have their own logo type thing now'a'days any way.

You could always offer 2 versions, non the less.

here is what I can say:
    1. color green, make it more dark green
    2. font size to be smaller
    3. footer should be of same size or wider than body

    hope it helps.

Would suggest expanding the footer to be 100% width like the header.

Also I think just having a graphic header is better but why not offer both?

Below are my observation about your template
    1. change green colour it's not look good and don't match with layout
    2. please reduce font size.
Please modified your site with all suggestion i hope it looks batter than current.

Ok so I reduced the font size as was suggested and I also reduced the header size, currently I am looking to create a cool graphical header but I haven't had much time to develop it.

the footer is now 100% width to match the header and there are some links in there so it doesn't look too empty. However I will style it etc when i get more of a chance! :D

Another wee addition was some box shadow which I quite like, although it doesn't really look all to special with the current colors. On my other templates it looks pretty beast! :D
